The ProjectThis project provides shoes for a line of people 40 miles long.
The Shoes for Humanity project is an international partnership under the direction of the Global Village of Humanity organization (GVH). GVH is an international non-profit, non-political, humanitarian organization dedicated to improving the lives of impoverished people around the world. GVH is endorsed by the United Nations and currently has members in 19 countries. Additional partners include Feed the Children, Lions Clubs International, Summit Park Mall, World Emergency Relief-UK and Trimask Design. RATIONALE: Global Village of Humanity has acquired approximately 200,000 pairs of sturdy safety sandals. These sandals are discarded after being worn approximately 30 minutes. GVH has built a volunteer pipeline to freely distribute these used sandals to barefoot impoverished people who do not have any shoes and cannot afford shoes. The initial delivery site is Africa where the greatest need exists. The target areas for distribution are impoverished families, refugee camps, natural disaster victims, rural hospitals and street orphans.
This humanitarian recycling program provides usable sandals as a real solution to hundreds-of-thousands of impoverished people who cannot afford shoes of any type. The practical and tangible daily benefits of wearing shoes reach far beyond personal comfort. These sandals provide the impoverished with a primary tool that dramatically improves their health and lives. For without shoes, they remain geographically limited and medically at risk from soil-borne diseases and foot trauma as a result of being habitually barefoot. 100% of your donation goes to providing shoes for the poor.
